OK-SAFE, Inc. – More evidence that the political class is charting the course for more  international entanglements, as well as the advancement of international law and regulatory authority in this country.

Assuming, of course, we even have something called “this country” anymore.

From the Latin American Herald Tribune, Monday, August 5, 2014:

Clinton, Colombia’s Foreign Minister Meet to Advance Connecting the Americas 2022

“WASHINGTON – U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Colombian Foreign Minister Maria Angela Holguin Cuellar met on Thursday in New York City with foreign ministers from numerous governments of the Western Hemisphere.

Leaders met at a side event during the 67th United Nations General Assembly to advance Connecting the Americas 2022 (Connect 2022), an initiative launched at the Sixth Summit of the Americas in April 2012.

Through political will and close collaboration among partner countries of the Americas, Connect 2022 aims to strengthen regulatory frameworks and promote electrical inter-connections to achieve access to electricity for all citizens of the hemisphere within a decade, improving the quality of life of all peoples of the Americas.

Representatives of international financial institutions, including the Inter-American Development Bank, The World Bank, and the Organization of American States participated in the meeting and re-affirmed their support for Connect 2022.”

Connecting the Americas 2022 – From the U.S. Department of State:
Connect 2022, launched by Colombia’s former Minister of Mines and Energy Mauricio Cardenas and the U.S. Secretary of State, is a hemispheric initiative, which establishes a decade-long goal to achieve universal access to electricity through enhanced electrical interconnections, power sector investment, renewable energy development, and cooperation. Connect 2022, endorsed by heads of state in the Summit declaration, supports the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA), involving all governments of the Western Hemisphere, the private sector, IDB, World Bank, and OAS. It is advanced bilaterally and sub-regionally in North America; Central America with Mexico and Colombia; the Andes with Chile; Brazil and Southern Cone; and the Caribbean.
